Introduction
Melbourne Law School (MLS or Melbourne Law) is one of the professional graduate schools of the University of Melbourne. Located in Carlton, Victoria, MLS is Australia’s oldest law school, and offers J.D., LL.M, Ph.D, and LL.D degrees. The University of Melbourne Law School has been ranked seventh in the world and first in Australia in the Times Higher Education World University 2018 Subject Rankings for Law.
MLS has produced a number of notable alumni in law and politics, including four Prime Ministers of Australia, three Governors-General, four Chief Justices of Australia and thirteen Commonwealth Attorneys-General. Alumni include a current Justice of the High Court of Australia, the current Chief Justice of the Family Court of Australia, the current Governor of Victoria, the incoming Solicitor-General of Australia, the current President of the Australian Human Rights Commission, the current Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commissioner and the current Chairwoman of the Victorian Bar Council.

The Law Library has one of the best law collections in Australia
Located within the Law School building, the Law Library has a historically rich collection of legal texts including approximately 180 000 printed volumes, 30 000 volumes in microfiche or microfilm
There are three fully-equipped computer laboratories in the Library where students can work with a comprehensive collection of online legal databases
The Library is designed exclusively to house and present the full library collection, making it extremely accessible to students, researchers, academics, visiting scholars and the general public.
The Law Library has a permanent display of a rare books collection, comprising rare legal items dating back to the early 1600s
The Law Library is also furnished with spacious study areas, group discussion rooms and postgraduate carrels for individual and collaborative work.

Student life
At university students are provided with every essential service related to studies, health, social interaction facilities, a better platform to understand and learning. Some facilities are networked colour printing, photocopying, and scanning can be done within the Library, in compliance with copyright laws. The University has provided various IT facilities and support services as part of its student learning resources. Students can bring their own laptop/tablet/mobile phone on campus and work in their own space, by easily connecting to the University’s wireless network, and each computer lab is equipped with printers. Other printing, photocopying and scanning facilities are available in the library. The Centre for Academic Success (CAS) is a dedicated space where students can seek advice and academic support from specialist staff and counselors. The staff at CAS delivers the Academic Enrichment Programme and coordinates the Student Learning Assistants. In addition to this, CAS provides confidential learning disability support, pre-sessional English language booster workshops as well as pre-sessional academic skills workshops.
