Washington and Lee University School of Law is a small private law school in Virginia. Washington and Lee School of Law based in the college town of Shenandoah Valley in Virginia founded in 1849.This law school only offer graduate degree program designed for 3 years with total tuition fee of $48,375.

While breaking down the syllabus of the degree the first year at law school offers the basic courses. While in the second year students take their elective subjects and the third year is based on the engagement of lawyer. In this year students will have practical; experience through practice-based imitations, and can choose their own subjects based on their interests in the specific area of law. Besides that students can involve themselves in legal journals at the law school, the Journal of Civil Rights and Social Justice, the German Law Journal and Washington and Lee Law Review.

Washington and Lee University School of Law have different law clinics which offer law services for the clients and Experimental education.

Experiential Education at W&L Law

The program designed as the combination of the demanding study of legal doctrine and analysis, seminar classes, legal clinics and externships. It provides unique opportunity for lawyers to learn in context, speeding the transition from law student to legal professional.

 It is two years, practical experience program and students will have great flexibility in course selection and scheduling to build a legal curriculum best tailored to your career objectives. This will help in greater opportunity to prepare for bar exams. To fulfill the 18 experiential credits, including representing actual clients in a real practice setting, students will choose from offerings that span both litigation and business practice areas.

Legal Clinics

Washington and Lee University School of Law offer different legal clinics as well. These clinic include

Advanced Administrative Litigation Clinic (Black Lung)

This includes preparing appeals to either the Benefits Review Board or the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. 

Community Legal Practice Center

Students in the Community Legal Practice Center represent lower income Rockbridge area residents in a general practice law firm setting. In the clinic, students assist their clients with the entire range of civil legal concerns, including family law (including child custody, adoption, and adult guardianship) and end of life planning issues.

Criminal Justice Clinic

This clinic will allow the students to deal with criminal cases. They will see the proceedings of people facing criminal charges in local trial courts. Mostly cases include assault, larceny, and possession of marijuana, DUI, and destruction of property.

Immigrant Rights Clinic

In this clinic students will come to know about the immigration matters, providing legal services to persons in removal proceedings. It includes both detained and non-detained people, and with a particular focus on vulnerable populations such as refugees, unaccompanied minors, and victims of domestic violence.

Tax Clinic

Students in the Tax Clinic represent income-eligible taxpayers who have post-filing controversies with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and/or the Virginia Department of Taxation. Typical the cases include under audit, appealing an audit, challenging an assessment, navigating collection issues, or requesting “innocent spouse” relief

Virginia Capital Case Clearinghouse

Since 1988, the Virginia Capital Case Clearinghouse (VC3) has served as Virginia’s litigation resource center for lawyers representing defendants facing the death penalty at trial in both state and federal courts.  Students will come to know about practical experience, how cases proceed in the courts and other relevant matters.

Washington and Lee University School of Law J.D. Program

It is three year program, and students will learn different law related in subjects in different years.

The First Year

Students also have Legal Writing and Research requirements in their first year. Legal Writing is a comprehensive year-long course taught in concert with Legal Research. This curriculum focuses on real world skills that students will be expected to have mastered, and in a way that replicates actual practice. Many law students wonder what courses they will take in their first year. At W&L, the required first-year courses are: Civil Procedure, Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, Contracts, Property, Torts, and Transnational Law.

The Second and Third Year

In addition to investigate deeply into specific subject areas, students also begin taking classes in the innovative experiential curriculum during the second year. Combining together traditional classes with practice-based offerings like practicum classes, legal clinics, and externships, allow students to create unique opportunities to learn in context, speeding the transition from law student to legal professional.
